The Chapter XLI Special Forces Association (SFA) Master Sergeant (MSG) Tom Kyle Educational Assistance Grant (EAG) is a one-time grant of $500.00 to a student enrolled in a college, university, or other accredited post-secondary educational or vocational institution. EAG are based on availability of SFA XLI EAG funds. The intent of the EAG is to help the student cover normal educational expenses while seeking higher education.
ELIGIBILITY
- A member of Chapter XLI, SFA in good standing or a member of their family, who is planning to enter, or enrolled in, a college, university or other accredited post-secondary educational or vocational institution.
- An honorably discharged Army Special Forces (SF) veteran and their family members.
- An Army SF soldier currently serving in the Active or Reserve Component and their family members.
- For the purposes of this scholarship, family members are defined as spouse, offspring and adopted children, and descendants thereof.

- Applications may be submitted any time during the calendar year. EAGs are awarded 1 July for the Fall Semester and 1 November for the Spring Semester.
- The application will consist of the following:
- A personal letter to the EAG Selection Committee setting forth the applicant’s educational plans, career aspirations and any other relevant comments the applicant would like the committee to consider.
- This personal letter should contain a summary of the applicant’s extracurricular activities, non-academic achievements and hobbies.
- A copy of the applicant’s official transcripts for the last two years (high school transcripts for entry level college students).
- A copy of the veteran’s DD214 or Reserve Component discharge documents. For military members still serving in the Active or Reserve Component a letter from the soldier’s Commanding Officer attesting to his, or her, continuing honorable service.
Failure to meet the application requirements may result in disqualification of the applicant.
PROCESS
- The EAG Selection Committee is appointed by the President of Chapter XLI, SFA. The EAG Selection Committee will review each application packet.
- The EAG Selection Committee will forward its recommendation to the President, Chapter XLI, SFA for final approval prior to 1 July by the Chapter President for the Fall Semester or by 1 November for the Spring Semester. Any committee or chapter leader who has a relative applying for the EAG must recuse himself from the decision-making process for their relative.
- The Chapter XLI President will notify the EAG recipient as soon as practicable after final selection. Final results of the EAG will be announced at the next Chapter general membership meeting.
- The Chapter XLI President will invite the EAG recipient to the next general membership meeting to receive, in person, the formal letter of award.
- The EAG will be paid to the student’s educational institution in their name and for their account.
- An exception to this policy may be granted on a case-by-case basis subject to a vote by a majority of the Chapter members in attendance at the monthly meeting when the exception is requested.”
Note: Changes to the requirements listed above must be approved by the Chapter XLI membership and placed into the Chapter XLI By-Laws.
